5 Wedding Trends for 2021 & beyond

2021 Wedding Trends

As the wedding industry continues to grow and evolve, couples are constantly seeking new and inventive ways to create unforgettable, one-of-a-kind weddings.

With the help of social media, Pinterest, blogs, and their vendor teams, couples are always looking at and evaluating the latest trends, and we’ve highlighted a few of our favorites below.

Weekday Weddings

As the industry reopens after the pandemic, the availability of venues and vendor teams has been a challenge and many couples simply aren’t willing to compromise and instead are opting for weekday weddings.

In the past, weekday weddings were unheard of and now they are commonplace! In addition to ensuring your dream team’s availability, it is a great way to not only save a bit of money but support the industry professionals that have struggled during the pandemic.

If you are opting for a weekday wedding, be sure to check with your wedding party and closest friend and family prior to booking to ensure that there are no conflicts. Then, send out save-the-dates well in advance, so that your guests can plan accordingly and get ready to celebrate on a Tuesday!

Transformative Attire

We love an outfit change and this year we are seeing couples, yes couples (both partners), pulling out all the stops to slip into something a bit more fun (comfortable) after the ceremony, especially for couples who’ve opted for church weddings.

Having a dress with a detachable train or opting for a cute jumpsuit, romper or mini dress is a great way for a bride to still feel like a bride while dancing the night way.  For guys, the transition is usually a bit more subtle, and taking off your jacket and bow tie doesn’t count, but a new suit jacket or cool fashion forward vest is absolutely a great way to show off your personality.

If you are planning an outfit change, make sure your planner has it built into the timeline so that you don’t miss too much of your celebration. While the changes are normally quick, sometimes faster than bustling, make sure you plan for at least twenty minutes.

Not sure when to change?  We have three great options – after the ceremony and photos or between the cocktail hour and dinner or after dinner before the cake cutting.

Micro-Weddings

In 2020, we saw the rise of my favorite trend, the micro-wedding! A micro-wedding is just like your traditional wedding but on a smaller, more intimate scale. With a guest list less than 50 guests, micro-weddings enhance the personal and emotional connection between the couple and their friends and family!

While micro-weddings became popular as a way for clients to reduce their guest count during the pandemic, couples are now seeing the benefits of small guest counts, including being able to not only reduce their overall budget, but to prioritize budget dollars towards what’s truly important and splurging on those items without breaking the bank.

Small guest counts also allow for the couple to have quality time with all of their guests, instead of your day being filled with quick hellos and goodbyes, micro weddings allow for a more relaxed, personalized vibe.

We love micro-weddings so much we wrote an entire blog about them

Backyard Weddings

Destination weddings have always been a fan favorite for many couples looking for an inviting and welcoming environment for their special day, however, with significant travel restrictions, backyard weddings have made a comeback!

Having your wedding at home provides not only a sense of comfort, but a stronger emotional connection to your wedding.  There are always stories to tell about childhood memories, family parties, graduations, skinned knees and the casual vibe of a backyard wedding provides a reassuring feeling for couples, providing them and their loved ones with a sense of “home” on their wedding day.

If you are considering a backyard wedding, do yourself a favor and talk to a professional first.  Backyard weddings, while cozy, they aren’t necessarily less expensive than a traditional venue.

Reimagined Entertainment

Weddings often have impressive and lively entertainment and more often than not, the goal is to get everyone on their feet and on the dance floor! With social distancing rules, dancing wasn’t always an option for many couples last year, which called for a bit of creativity when it came to guest entertainment.

While we love a lively band, we’ve loved seeing our clients showcase live musicians in their wedding celebration.  Not only do live musicians provide the soundtrack for your wedding they also provide entertainment for your guests.

In addition to live musicians, we’ve also had requests for trivia, cigar rollers, board & yard games and silent disco (where guests can dance at their own table to their own soundtrack!)

If 2020 taught us anything, it is that love is never cancelled and that couples and vendors adapt to new circumstances and new trends are developed. We hope that these trends are here to stay and continue to grow in popularity throughout 2021 and beyond.
