As a kid, I loved Christmas. I loved the sound of bells ringing, the smell of the Christmas tree, eating Grandma’s Christmas cookies, the decorations on North Street, and anxiously awaiting Santa’s arrival donning brand new pajamas. But while I love a good shortbread cookie, my favorite part of the holiday season was always making memories with my family. I’ll never forget the look on my mom’s face when she opened a gift to find the wine glasses she’d been coveting; or the look of determination on my dad’s face as he secured our tree to the wall in hopes of actually keeping it upright this year; or my embarrassment as my parents insisted on putting the faded construction paper garland on to the tree...again!

Making magical memories with your friends and family is what this time of year is all about. To quote “Love Actually” (one of my favorite movies), “Christmas is...is the time to be with the people you love.”

Follow the simple tips below to have your most memorable and stress-free holiday party yet.

1. Consume some holiday cheer.
We love the idea of offering guests a festive signature cocktail. If the thought of playing bartender all night overwhelms you, consider making a larger batch of punch instead. You can make it ahead of time and still impress your guests!

2. Keep the food simple. Beautiful, but simple.
Your guests want to spend time with YOU, so don’t overthink your holiday menu or try a crazy new recipe that will keep you in the kitchen all day and night. We have some inspiration for you on our Pinterest page, including gorgeous charcuterie boards that both meat-eaters and vegetarians will love. Also, remember that there is no shame in outsourcing your workload! It will be our little secret.

3. Swapping is always a good idea.
Sometimes, being surrounded by both family and friends during the holidays means that everyone doesn’t necessarily know one another. This can be a challenge, but we’ve found that the best way to integrate different groups is with a SWAP! Of course, there is the traditional Yankee Swap -- we would encourage making a spend limit of $10 to keep it light and fun. We also LOVE the idea of a cookie swap or a wine swap. Who wouldn’t love leaving with cookies they didn’t have to bake or a bottle of wine they’ve never tried before?

4. Show your guests some love.
The holidays are a hectic time of year and out of all the competing invitations, your guests chose to attend YOUR party. So, show them your gratitude by giving them a small gift. We love the idea of giving ornaments so your guests will remember you, your party, and your thoughtfulness when they decorate their tree every year. No time to buy ornaments? A beautiful wreath or succulent will do the trick, too!

5. Don’t overdo it.
Your goal while hosting a holiday party is to be present, to celebrate the season, and to truly enjoy your guests. If the stress of getting everything done is taking away from the joy of the season, give yourself permission to cancel your party and meet for drinks instead!
