5 Fantastic Ways To Celebrate Mother's Day

Lilacs and package with brown paper wrapping

For me, Mother’s Day will always be one of the more bittersweet days on the calendar. You see, I lost my mom, Leslie, while I was in college. When Mother’s Day rolls around each year, it would be easy to focus on what I lost, but I decided a long time ago that this should be a day to celebrate my mom, rather than mourn her.

No matter if you’re honoring your mom, grandmother, or another strong woman in your life this year, here are a few ways you can celebrate in style.

Take A Field Trip

Spring has finally sprung in Boston, which means it’s the perfect time of year to spend some time together outside. We adore the Tower Hill Botanical Garden just an hour outside the city for its lush gardens, walking trails, art installations, and stunning views. They even have a special Mother’s Day menu for the occasion.

If you have a bit more time on your hands, Wicked Tulips Flower Farm, the only you-pick tulip farm in New England, is worth the drive. With over five acres of tulips, it’s a great place to make some family memories—but act fast! It’s a local favorite and tickets almost always sell out.

Host Brunch at Home

While Moms of young kids cherish breakfast in bed made by cute little hands, moms of adult children love the idea of a grown-up brunch complete with plenty of bubbly. If you need party-planning inspiration, check out our Pinterest page for some simple-yet-gorgeous ideas.

Get Pampered

Nothing says, “Thanks, Mom” more than some quality pampering time. Our favorite local day spa is Bella Santé in Lexington—the staff is lovely, there is a wide variety of services, and their lounge is the perfect spot to relax and unwind.

If you’re looking to take an entire spa weekend, Topnotch Resort in Stowe, VT is the place to go. Just three hours from Boston, the award-winning spa offers lounges with fireplaces, dozens of treatment rooms, indoor and outdoor heated pools, and a hot tub with a waterfall.

Make New Traditions

Several years ago, my friend, goddaughter, and I started a tradition of having afternoon tea together. It’s so simple, but it has quickly become something I look forward to every year. Start a similar tradition of your own by taking Mom to the Boston Public Library, The Boston Harbor Hotel or Fancy That.

Don’t Forget the Gift

If you’re still struggling to find the perfect gift to show Mom how much you love and appreciate her, here are some of our favorite ideas.

  • Joy Street Gifts in West Concord - No matter the occasion, from jewelry to candles to homeware, we always find the perfect gift within our budget.

  • Does Mom love to cook? Then we cannot recommend Love and Lemons Everyday more. The cookbook contains simple, vegetarian recipes that the whole family will love.

  • Like the rest of America, we are obsessed with all things Rachel Hollis. The “Girl, Stop Apologizing” author has a line of small batch gratitude and goal setting journals that are sure to keep even the busiest mom focused on her goals.

  • For those of you in the Boston area, our LJE Mother’s Day floral arrangements are just $60, including delivery. For more information, email kelly@lesliejamesevents.com.

Remember: at the end of the day, spending quality time with her loved ones is what your mom really wants!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Xoxo,
